SUMMARY
Arguments for God's Existence: Spectacles
We can know God in two ways. First through God's creation, preservation and government of the universe. This is known by Christians as General Revelation and it is understood generally, or broadly, by every person (Psalm 19, Romans 1). Everywhere we look in the universe, God's creation is speaking about God.
In the history of humanity, two problems arose when it comes to the book of General Revelation. First--after human beings fell into sin, the creation was subjected to a type of frustration (like disease or natural disasters) which are meant to make us ponder our sin--to show us how helpless we are without God. The second problem is more significant. Due to sin, our hearts have become hardened and our eyes have become blind. We stubbornly substitute the truth found in creation for lies and darkness.
To this two-fold problem, God has a two-fold solution. The first answer iis the Bible - or Special Revelation - through the scriptures. The Bible teaches us as much as we need to know about God's glory and as much as we need to know about the salvation God has made available through Jesus Christ. God sends his Holy Spirit to work on our hearts and open our blinded eyes so we can see the truth. Once God has done this, the Bible becomes like eye glasses and we can see all the truth of the first book as well.
God has made himself known through General Revelation, the creation of the universe, and through Special Revelation, the scriptures.
