SUMMARY

Argument for God's Existence: Creation Speaks

In the creation story in the opening chapter of the Bible, there is a rhythmic quality with the use of repeated phrases such as "and God said ... and it was so." Then you find phrases like "and saw that it was good," and it creates a cadence or beat--a musical quality that must have a purpose. Also, when God creates all the raw materials, there is a certain chaos. The Bible tells us that the world was "formless and void." Then God begins to stamp out his order - separating darkness from night and waters from dry ground. After the process of separation, God begins binding things together ... the birds with the sky, fish with the sea, the animals with the dry ground ... and begins to create order on creation. Separating and binding creates beauty. Sin creates ugliness. It separates what ought to be together and binds what God meant to be separated. Adam and Eve experienced temptation in wanting to be like God. The first sin was an attempt to jumble God and us together. There were consequences to that sin. It ripped apart the relationship between one human being and another that were meant to be together. We can see the beauty and the order and the creation all around us. The Bible tells us that the heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of his hands. The story of Jesus is about bringing beauty back into our lives.
